Castles of the Trenčín Region Through “Windows into History”

At ARDSYSTÉM, we were responsible for the production and complete implementation of the “Windows into History” products for the Castles of Považie project, which was carried out across seven castle ruins in the Trenčín Region – Beckov Castle, Čachtice Castle, Tematín Castle, Lednica Castle, Vršatec Castle, Trenčín Castle and Považský Castle.

The aim of the project was to allow visitors to see the original appearance of the castles directly at the sites of their present-day ruins. The transparent educational panels connect historical reconstructions with the preserved walls, creating a unique view into history within the real environment itself.

During the implementation, we focused not only on visual design, but also on technical execution, durability, and overall safety. The panels were fitted with tempered safety glass, which shatters into small blunt fragments in the event of damage, minimizing the risk of injury to visitors. Each installation was preceded by detailed terrain surveying to ensure that the historical outlines on the glass precisely aligned with the actual remains of the castles.

Logistics and installation in exposed terrain also represented a major challenge. Several locations had no access roads, and handling the structures and glass panels required demanding manual transport directly to the castle hills and ruins. In projects like these, quality manufacturing alone is not enough — experience with installation in real conditions and the ability to technically manage atypical environments are essential.

We are pleased that, thanks in part to our work, visitors can now look through the Windows into History and experience the original majestic appearance of Slovak castles in a way that is visually natural, understandable, and authentic.
